Tupwood Gate celebrate South Asian Heritage Month

Residents and staff at Tupwood Gate Nursing Home had an amazing afternoon earlier this week celebrating South Asian Heritage Month.

The nursing home’s South Asian staff shared their culture and heritage and a number of staff wore traditional clothes. Our residents particularly enjoyed a series of talks by one our nurses on Indian culture and heritage, known landmarks, around languages spoken, celebrations, Indian dress and how this is passed down through the generations.

The residents were also entertained by some guest dancers from an Indian Traditional /Bollywood dance school based in Croydon, which was arranged by one of our staff members. One of our carers sang an Indian song beautifully, also another danced for us.

Finally, our residents also had opportunity to try some Indian side dishes, such as poppadum’s, naan bread, raita dip, mango chutney and onion salad.

All in all it was a great event that supported awareness, diversity and inclusion.
